Loss of strength in right quad

by Tracy

I am 35 yrs old and had a bilateral lateral release with lots of arthritis clean up on my patellas and femur 7 weeks ago. I have been doing therapy to strengthen but have had alot of problems with even raising my right leg off the table. I finally have accomplished that but continue to have alot of muscle loss in the right quad, still working on the left too but it is much better.

My knees don't seem to bother as much as the muscles around the knees. I am back to work, not full time yet but just feel like I am managing. When will this get better or do I have to give it alot more time, feel that 1 year olds walk better than me.

Feeling frustrated.

quad strength

It is, unfortunately, going to take some time to recover your strength. Lateral release surgery often has a lot of swelling, and that swelling lingers for several weeks to months after surgery. Any swelling in the joint will inhibit the quads somewhat, so that slows down the strengthening process.

Keep working on your rehabilitation and it will come back, it just takes time - frustrating I know.
