Luci's ACL Surgery on June 9th! - Q about sedation

by Lu
(California)

Hi everyone! My ACL surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th. I tore my ACL in February when I was hit by a car when I was on the crosswalk.

I'll be using the hamstring graft and spinal anesthesia. By the way, any recommendations on sedation, from people who only used spinal anesthesia?

Is anyone else scheduled to have their surgery soon? Is so, please leave a comment, so we can cheer each other on!

Thanks!
-Luci

My surgery was successful! Contrary to the results of my MRI (that showed much damage to the entire joint, including a tibia fracture, which has since healed), my meniscus etc. were undamaged, so I'm really happy about that.

I did get a femoral block; it's finally wearing off (it actually lasted more than 48 hrs!), so I am starting to feel lots of pain, but the icing machine is truly a life saver, as many have mentioned here before!

I do have a post-op appointment tomorrow; I'm really looking forward to that shower!

In the meantime, I'm suffering from boredom :-P Anyone else have a recent ACL surgery who wants to commiserate?

Thanks for the comment! How is your knee doing?

The boredom is definitely getting a lot better, now that I've been walking for over a week now! I did end up develop a hematoma on my calf from the bleeding one week post-surgery, and the doc thought it would put me a week behind schedule, but I saw him a couple days ago, and he said I'm ahead of schedule!

I hope I'll be able to start running at 12 weeks like you!

i didnt injure my knee due to sports, i was pinned to a building by a car. my reconstruction was a success, the part that was the hardest is being on the leg machine 6 hrs. a day for four weeks! oh and the ice machine as well! my quad muscles are still pretty messed up, so im working on getting back in shape but not sure of what home exercises are sufficient?

I was also in an accident -- I was a pedestrian hit by a car that was speeding and ran a red. Cars are scary ... and irresponsible drivers...

Have you gone to PT? At home I do ankle weights and band exercises. If you've been going to PT, ask your therapist, he/she should give you a list of exercises to do at home.

Wish you a good recovery!
