Marcos ACL Surgery - patellar tendon

by Marcu Bogdan Gabriel
(Bucharest, Romania)

I had 2 months ago a motorcycle accident and torn my acl in my left knee. I took an MRI and so, i decided to go with the surgery. They also told me that i had torn my meniscus as well.
I went on surgery on 4th february 2009 (now i am 6 th day postop), chosing the patellar tendon as a graft from the same knee ... That becouse i want my knee to regain at full, even if that takes a lot of pain ...
But, i went in some surprises ... when they opened my knee, my meniscus was ok. They said everything went well ... After the anesthesya went off, i had absolutly no pain, my knee wasn`t swelled, no bruises, nothing ... just perfect ...
In the first day after the surgery i was able to lift up my leg straightend, and 2 nd day i was able to get over 100 degrees of flexion .
Now i`m in 6 th day ... no pain whatsoever, no swallowing, no bruises ... i can do easyly 120 degrees on the knee, maybe more, but i don`t want to push it to far ... I`m walking with crutches, i don`t want to take any chances ... and, also, i work my ass with this knee at least 3-4 hard hours per day ;)
So far i`m very happy with the surgery, and i`m glad that i`ve opted for patellar tendon ... My surgeon told me that i`m of his best pacients :))

no pain :) NEW
by: Marcos

Hello!
Sorry for the very late reply ...
Well, my knee recovered excelently, i have no pain whatsoever ... I can say, my left knee is the strong one right now :)
The only anoying thing i have left, it`s a portion the size of 50 eurocent coin in the knee where i can`t feel it, but it doesn`t bother me much ...

Any Pain in knee? NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi Marcos,

do you still get any sort of knee pain while kneeling? I can't decide between hamstring or patellar.

Thanks...
