I have played tennis for almost 50 years...both tennis and golf for the last 10...I also walk 6 miles/day 4-6 days a week. A couple of years ago, I started experienced right knee pain behind the knee and didn't back off of my activities until it got worse.
I saw an orthopedist, and after a physical exam and MRI, I was relieved to learn that I did not need surgery and that a physical therapy program along with taping the knee in a way that would stabilize the patella would eventually alleviate the pain, and it did.
Unfortunately, because I stopped doing the exercises, the pain has started recurring..I want to find the list of exercises the PT gave me, since they worked last time, and tape the knee before I play tennis, golf or walk.
The orthopedist had told me that this injury was extremely common for active women, and I was wise to come see him so he could refer me to the PT.....once again, avoiding surgery was GREAT!
