depends on the doctor
by: Bart - SII

treatment depends on the doctor, but most grade III MCL sprains require immobilization, often restricting full extension and limiting flexion (30-60 degree available range) for 4-6 weeks, and then a slow and gradual progression into strengthening and ROM exercises. Overall recovery can be anywhere from 3-5 months, depending on how the body recovers.

The MCL generally heals well without surgical intervention, however, the acute treatment (ie. immobilization and protection of the healing tissue) determines how much laxity may be present after recovery.
