i need help!
by: kymori

hey melanie!im 14 also and about 2 months ago i had an incident occur during pe playing "crazy kickball" my right foot planted but i heard and felt a pop then my leg went crippled as i fell to the floor.it was unstable and the pain left me shaking.it immediately started to swell.i left school and went to ER.I got xrayed and the doc told me it was just a sprain.he gave me a brace and some painkillers.as the days passed my knee felt better i started walking without the brace or crutches and jogging.i still felt little small pops in my knee and it was sometimes a little unstable.the swelling never went fully down however.unfortunantly today in pe i was doing the shuttle run and as my right leg planted once again i heard the pop and my leg gave way.my coach called my dad saying he thinks i tore my acl because my leg bent inward towards my left knee.it immediately swelled.so tomorrow im going to the ER for a follow up from when it got hurt the first time and i might go see an ortho doc.is this really a torn acl or am i just freaking out for nothing?please help me!

Growth disturbance After Teenage ACL Surgery?
by: Bill

My son is 15 and has torn his ACL. He needs surgery but we are worried about disturbing his growth. Has any 15-year-old male on this forum had a growth disturbances (one leg becomes shorter than the other) after an ACL reconstructive surgery? I would greatly appreciate any response because I would be making a decision on whether/when to have the surgery within a week. My son is crazy about sports, and does not want to be on the sidelines.

Feel Better
by: Anonymous

hi! i hope im not to late to respond but i am 15 and tore my acl and two parts of my Mencius in late may. I just got the surgery a few weeks ago and it went really well. My pain killers made me throw up alot so be careful depending what you are going to take once you are out of the hospital. The first few days are really rough but you improve everyday. As for me I was on crutches for about 5 days then found it easier to just limp around. I hope you recover quickly!

Good Luck
by: Anonymous

Hey, Melanie! I tore my ACL when I was 14 while playing basketball. I used to play year round too. I was on crutches for about 6 weeks after surgery because I tore my ACL, medial meniscus, and lateral meniscus. I was in physical therapy for 8 months. Just keep doing the therapy cause it makes it go by so much faster. Good Luck!
