Melissa's story

(MA)
I'm 16 years old and tore my ACL and MCL a little over a week ago. A girl on my hockey team fell on me and i heard the popping noise. I got rushed to the hospital but the doctors said i was fine and sent me home. A few days later i saw another doctor who told me he thought i tore my ACL and my MCL.
I went and saw my doctors in Boston yesterday, they told me i tore both my ACL and MCL. They told me my recovery would take about nine months. I'm a hockey goalie and am also a junior in high school, so hearing its gonna take nine months for me to get back on the ice put me in tears. I am very dedicated to hockey and play it year round. Ive been a starting varsity goalie since my sophomore year and play for a national bound hockey team during off season. I was hoping to get a scholarship to college to play. I also was due for a hip surgery in April, but yesterday they canceled my hip surgery (for the 3rd time) so that they could have my knee done first.
Im still hoping to get right back into the swing of things once i recover im probably going to push off my surgery again so i can play highschool hockey next season. My parents want to send me to a prep school to make up for my loss time in playing hockey. Hopefully the surgery goes well and i can be back on the ice by December.
