Well here we are again. My 12 year old daughter called me from the field hockey practice field - "please come and pick me up" -" I need to see the doctor so I can he can figure out what this cracking is with my knee". My husband and I went to the field to pick her up and we knew from a distance which girl was ours - the only one limping and and wearing a knee brace from her ACL surgery one year ago.
Later on in the evening with the ice pack on her leg she is telling me that she is fine. The next day with a limp she is telling me that she is fine. Well, I did not think she was fine and this was happening every week now - so I called her doctor. He did not think she was fine and one week later Missy and I made the 6 hour trip to Boston's Children Hospital.
After listening and doing an examination on her knee her doctor sent us off to get an MRI for a torn meniscus. When we return with the film it was confirmed - a small tear and surgery required to repair it - hopefully!
So here we are, a couple of days later, and it has sunk in that she will be on crutches for another 6 weeks and at least 3 months until sports. This means no basketball ( I am happy about that) but she could most likely play softball.( okay I can deal with that) Missy feels after all of the rehab to get her knee strong from her ACL surgery,we are back to square one.
We don't know exactly when this happened but I think that it was awhile ago and if I didn't decide that enough was enough we would still be blind to her situation. Prognosis is good, she is strong willed and is ready to start again. What can I say she is competive and until someone tells her no more- she wants to play, while I pray!
