Nearing ACL surgery

A little over 10 years ago (I was 14 at the time), I fell awkwardly on my leg and hurt my knee pretty badly. When I went to the hospital, I saw a surgeon who said that I had torn off a piece of my tibia bone where it attaches to my ACL, but that the ACL was still intact. I was sent to the OR and put to sleep based on the hunch of the surgeon that they would have to go in and physically put the bone back in place. However, they managed to maneuver my leg in such a way that the bone went back into place without having to go inside the knee.

Over the last 10 years I have had instability in my knee, and a few dozen episodes of it "giving out" (a dislocation-like feeling, severe pain, swelling and stiffness for a few days). About eight months ago, I again landed awkwardly on my knee, and had the most severe episode of my knee giving way that I've had since the initial injury. I went to the hospital (which I should have done years ago), had an MRI, and it turns out now that I have meniscus damage and that my ACL looks "abnormal" in the MRI picture.

I saw a surgeon who is supposedly one of the best in Canada, and he said that my initial injury stretched the ACL and that it has been permanently damaged ever since. He recommended that I get reconstructive surgery.

My surgery is a little over a week away, and they are planning to use the allograft. I will update this after I undergo the procedure. I'm definitely nervous.
