New and Unusual Popping in Knee (ACL Reconstruction)

My daughter had (ACL) reconstruction of her left knee on 12/21/07. She has appeared to heal and rebuild beautifully-danced in a performance on May 17 and 18th, '08-just 5 months out. (some modifications). She has continued to dance regularly. She is a Sr. on the school varsity soccer team and began this season's practices yesterday. She has a new and unusual 'popping' upon weight bearing and full extension on the involved leg.
Her surgeon is on vacation-we have not been able to get an appointment with another ortho. or assisting PA today. Her Physical therapist recommends wearing her brace until we see the doc. , at least.
??Can dance and competitive soccer co-exist??
What do you recommend for now?
Thanks.

Is it painful popping?
by: Bart - SII

If there is pain with the popping, I would recommend that she cut back on activities and then get in to see her doctor.

If it is not painful, it could be that she has some scar tissue that is moving around, she is breaking up very small adhesions around the knee, or her IT band is moving over the lateral femoral epicondyle.

It is very common to have popping after an ACL reconstruction - it is when this is painful that it is something to worry about.

Either way, a recheck with the doctor will probably set both of your minds at ease.
