Pain in shoulder and neck

by Charla
(Georgia)

Today while helping my husband move an air conditioning unit on a 2 wheeler, the tire went flat thus resulting in my lifting and pushing the unit to keep it from tipping over. Immediately I grabbed my shoulder. The pain in the left shoulder and neck area is pretty bad. I also have some pain and tingling radiating down my left arm. What could I have done? I don't have medical insurance and can't afford to go to the doctor. Do you think I hurt my rotator cuff, or just pulled a muscle?

Thanks

it could be muscular or joint injury. With the tingling, that suggests some type of nerve involvement. Would be a good idea to see a doctor.

Pain that radiates down the arm is not just a strained or sprained muscle. Something is irritating one of the nerves, it could be inflammation from a strain or sprain but it could be other things also. With regards to rotator cuff tears if it is a full tear you probably will not be able to fully lift the arm up. You may think it is just a sprain, but when it does not improve in a couple of days (example, it stays the same for a week, you HAVE to see a Dr. and get an MRI). If you have no money or insurance, most teaching hospitals have clinics with sliding scale fees, and they will bill you so you could gradually pay them.
