Patella Femoral Syndrome Due to Bowling?

by Howard
(Corvallis, OR)

I have bowled a lot all my life ... recently started running ... and lately when I bowl, my left knee hurts in a way that feels like the irritation is from the patellar tendon and also in the quadriceps tendon ...

I do not feel any pain on the sides (as the article about patella femoral syndrome suggests).

Is this still patella femoral syndrome?

Or could it be something slightly different? Has the running perhaps changed my quad muscles so that now they don't engage the tendons evenly, resulting in the patella femoral syndrome?

Maybe Patellar Tendonitis
by: Bart - SII

It is, of course, hard to say what exactly is going on with your knee, not being able to see you. With that said, it doesn't sound like patella femoral syndrome as much as patellar tendonitis.

As to why it is just now bothering you...that could be from the running. Although running is a great exercise, it can play havoc on joints and muscles.

One of the biggest things is that it builds strength and causes the muscles to tighten. So, you could have some tightness in your muscles that is now causing a different stress on your knee when you are bowling.

Does your knee hurt with any other activities? Running, squatting, jumping, etc, or just with bowling?

If this is a major concern, or causing a lot of pain, I recommend you talk to your doctor.

Hope this helps...
