Patella Tendinosis

by David L
(Dallas, Texas)

I have tendinosis in both knees. Left knee surgery 16 months ago, no real relief. Have heard about eccentric exercises to help with patella tendinosis, but can not find information on what exercises to do. Can you help?

Lunges, squats, etc
by: Bart - SII

Eccentric exercises for the patellar tendon involve any type of exercise where you are contracting your quads while at the same time bending your knee. So, lunges and squats both have an eccentric component...the down phase of a squat and the step phase of a lunge.

Eccentric activities are strongly associated with control - you control your decent during the eccentric phase of a squat and a lunge.

You may also want to look at hip and low back stretching, hip flexor and hamstring flexibility, and hip/core strengthening, as these may all help improve your patellar tendonosis.
