Patella Tendonitis Ice Application

Thank you very much for the information it is so helpful.
My right patella has been major pain and my left hurts but nowhere near the other. I was interval training and heard a pop but was able to finish that particular segment. But, after that I could not bend in a squatting motion without pain.

So, my question is I have heard cycling ice with heat back and fourth is effective. Do you agree? and if so how do you suggest? If not suggested how to ice and are there any creams? I will be following the exercises you suggest.

Contrast therapy is ok...
by: Bart - SII

Contrasting heat and ice can be beneficial, but I don't know that it is much more effective than just ice alone after activity. Most contrasts involve 2-5 minutes of each therapy (ice and heat), alternating back and forth 2-3 times, always ending with ice.

As far as the best way to ice - for patellar tendonitis, I like to use ice massage. Ice packs will also work well.

The best course of action is to see your doctor and get your knee looked at - this will give you a definitive diagnosis and your best treatment options for a quick and successful recovery.
