Post- op repair (meniscus)

I was originally supposed to have a meniscectomy. I woke up to find that a repair was warranted due to the size of the tear. I was not really prepared on what I should expect in the weeks to come. I am eleven days post op and go for my follow up appt tomorrow. I would just like to know what I can expect as far as recovery, pain levels, and physical therapy. I had an episode of hives from the scrub they used on my leg, so I have experienced some increased swelling. I received a steroid shot and a medrol dose pack four days ago but have not got complete relief from them.

repair vs. meniscectomy
by: Bart - SII

The biggest difference is that you will be on crutches for a longer period of time - 2-4 weeks depending on your surgeon's preferences. So, the recovery is somewhat delayed when compared to a meniscectomy because of the weightbearing delay.

Other than that, most meniscus repairs should heal along the same type of timeline as a meniscectomy, provided the repair takes.
