prudent time to remove orif of ankle

by Indiana
(Miami)

I broke my tibula, fibia and talus on July 8 and had ORIF (open reduction, internal fixation) the next day.

I had an infection that was discovered after the hard cast was removed. Had an open wound ever since that is now almost closed. Was told that is a skin reaction to the hardware. I'm very concern about the ugly scar I have and want to have the ORIF removed at exactly 3 month after the original surgery.

Please advise

hardware removal

Removal times will vary depending on how the fracture is healing - I am not a doctor or surgeon, so I can't give you an exact time frame for when it would be safe for removal of the hardware. This is something you should talk to your physician about.

Once the bone is healed well, it shouldn't be a problem to remove the hardware - 3 months could be possible, but again, your surgeon would know best.

Try Bio-oil, it works wonders for scars.
