Question - ACL Rehab Exercises

by Carly
(Pennsylvania)

I had acl reconstruction on May 2, 2008 with a hamstring graft.
I haven't had much pain only sometimes behind my knee after exercising. I recently had to stop my physical therapy and I was wondering if anyone had some advice on what exercises I should do besides squats, lifting weights, lunges, jumping rope, box jumping, step ups, riding an exercise bike and running.

I really what to get back to playing volleyball because it's my senior year. I can pass and serve in volleyball and I'm gradually starting to hit again but, I'm afraid my leg will give out. My doctor also told me I don't need a brace.
If anyone has more exercises for me to do I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I think you covered it pretty well

Your list covers a good number of things to be working on. I would also recommend working on some balancing activities, and once your surgeon gives you clearance, work on some jumping activities where you focus on landing as soft as you can and bending your knees.

You may also want to recheck with the clinician who did your rehab for some suggestions on continued strengthening - or your athletic trainer who works with your team.
