Question - Ankle Pain (football)

My 13 year son started back to football practice about 3 weeks ago. He started complaining about his ankles hurting. We purchased ankle braces for him, the coach said to ice them down,
but they still hurt. He can wake up the next morning and they are fine or over the weekend they are fine. Could he have sustained an injury and aggravates it by practicing? or does
his body just need to adjust to work outs?

This could be due to his shoes - football cleats are notorious for poor arch support and not very much padding - add to that a hard surface and the fact that he isn't used to the daily practices and you can end up with a general irritation of the ankle joint.

He might benefit from some shoe inserts that add a bit of padding and arch support to his cleats. Continuing to ice and wearing the braces should also help.

If it continues to be a problem, I would check with your doctor.
