Question - Broken Fibula Bone

My son broke his fibula bone about 8-10 inches up from the ankle. what is the healing time and process and will he be able to come back and play football this season? he broke it last thurs. and has a velcro splint cast on it now or boot. the season starts tonight August 22 and has 10 games plus an open date then playoffs. he is 5'9 180lbs all muscle, 17 yrs old.

6 weeks is the general time frame for fracture healing - most physicians will require some type of immobilization or protection for 4-6 weeks after a fracture - getting back then comes down to how well the fracture is healing, and then building up strength and restoring range of motion once out of immobilization.

I wouldn't think that the whole season is out, but he will probably miss at least the first 4 games, possibly 6.

Talk to your doctor about when they think your son will be able to return - they can give you a better time frame for his specific case.
