Question - Broken leg (tib/fib - return to basketball)

Alright well i broke both my tibia and fibula in football practice on August 14. It needed surgery to fix it so they put a IM rod in my leg to stabilize it so to this day it is exactly my 5th week in the healing process so my question is i'm a basketball player and i would like to play this year but i have been told that my leg is going to be to weak. my first game is dec. 9 is it possible that i will make it back in time?

It takes quite a bit of time to come back from this type of injury - probably 4-6 months at least before you are feeling normal enough to play ball. Your doctor will be able to give you a better timeline for returning to play.

The biggest thing is that you will need to go through therapy after you are cleared to start strengthening, and it is going to take a lot of hard work - you may not be ready for the first game, but I would think that at least part of the season is possible.

Check with your doctor.
