Rest, ice, a good warm up, and stretching...

Making sure he goes through a good warm up and lots of stretching before practice/games is important. Ice after activities, as well as trying to limit painful activities is also a good idea.

If the pain continues for more than a few days, get in to see your doctor for an evaluation to make sure you get the best recovery possible.
