Question - Football knee injury

by eric
(boston)

earlier today i got hit by some friendly fire at football with a guy rolling into the inside of my right knee. before i knew it i was on my back holding the inside of my knee, and i limped off the field. i did NOT hear a pop, nor is there any swelling, however i am unable to plant off my right leg as there is a slight pain when i do so and if i do so with enough force it feels unstable. any idea what i may have injured and how long it'll take for me to get back in the game?

Sounds like it could be just a contusion or muscle strain. From what you describe, MCL damage or meniscus damage is also possible. No swelling now is usually a good sign, but that may change in the next 24 hours.

I would ice a lot and rest and see how it feels tomorrow. If it is swollen or worse tomorrow or in the next few days, get in to see your athletic trainer or doctor.

Sorry to hear

Eric, sorry to hear about being out for 4-6. Thats no fun at all. Take care of this and follow their advice on rest - the MCL heals very well on its own if given the chance.

Best of luck,

Bart
