Question - Football PCL Injury

ok, well it was only flag football, but i did injure my pcl none the less. while running i hit a bump in the field which caused me to fall to the ground pretty hard. i'm not sure exactly how it happened but it sounds pretty close to the dashboard type injury.

I was able to walk after the injury but after getting home and sitting down it stiffened up and i was unable to walk for about a day. after that, i had a severe limp for about a week with the knee getting slightly better each day.

An mri revealed a tear and i'm getting ready to start physical therapy so i will update after a few weeks. anybody else have any experience with this type injury? what can i expect long term prognosis to be?

pcl tear

Most of the PCL tears that I have seen due to sports have healed well with proper care. This involves a period of wearing a brace and limiting painful motions, working through a rehabilitation program, and then gradually returning to sports.

I have had patients come back from PCL tears to play sports in as little as 3-4 weeks, and as long as 3-4 months. The 3-4 week patient actually went back to sports against the athletic trainers (mine and my colleagues)advice - I would recommend the 3-4 month version for the best long term result.
