Question - Injured Hip-Flexor
Two days ago,I pulled my right illiacus muscle during a match. Since physio yesterday ,it has shown considerable improvement, so am wondering what my chances are of playing within the next week? I don't want to risk a permanent injury, and as this has not happened before, am not too sure of the implications.
Any opinions? Thanks!

Depending on the severity of the injury, you may or may not cause more damage. Of course, it also depends on whether or not you put yourself in a position to strain the muscle again.
Even if the hp flexor injury is feeling better, it is not healed in just a few days, or even a couple weeks. The body goes through a very specific process to heal itself, and this process takes upwards of 4-6 weeks, more if the injury is significant. So, a lack of pain doesn't mean the tissue is healed...just that it feels better.
I would recommend continuing with the physio, and then gradually working back into activities. Make sure you go through a good warm up and stretching the hip flexors, and then gradually increase your activities. If it starts to bother you, cut back on your intensity.
BTW, the illiacus/psoas muscles can become a chronic problem if not managed well. The likelihood for recurrent strains is very good, especially in sports like soccer where you are kicking a lot.
Hope this helps. Comment back if you think of other questions.
