As long as moving it doesn't increase your pain, it probably will not hurt anything and might keep it from getting stiff.
If movement increases your pain, or if it gets worse, you should see your doctor for an X-ray to make sure that you didn't break any of the bones in your thumb.

My thumb was jammed by 150 pounds of "human" weight. 3 months has elapsed; and I still cannot bend my knuckle between the phalanges. Soaking in warm water with Epsom salts and apple cider vinegar helps loosen it. Thus, when I exercise the thumb by gently pushing against the knuckle, the thumb will bend.
There is no fracture. So, can you recommend anything else - to speed up recovery? I'm not one for undergoing surgery.
