Question - Knee Cyst (side of patella)

(Texas)

Every time I get active, a painful, fluid cyst pops out on the SIDE of the kneecap. I don't think it is a Baker's Cyst because it is on the side of my knee and it goes away eventually if I go back to not exercising it. This is a reoccurring problem.

For the last year I have been unable to be active at any walking, or exercising because this movable cyst pops out. This week I started my work out again and sure enough, I have a large cyst on the side of my knee. I can move it, too. Very strange.

Well, I have lived the last 30 years with half of a kneecap as a result of a car accident. So I have had various problems with it through the years.

patella cyst

It doesn't sound like a baker's cyst because of the location. It could be related to your previous patella injury - an area of capsule or patella retinaculum that fills with fluid when you exercise.

There may be surgical options for this if you wanted to see your physician for an evaluation. A compression sleeve may also help to reduce fluid accumulation during exercise.
