Question - Knee (hip strengthening)

Ok, read your article; Now how do I improve hip strength and control over femur?

Glen

Answer - Bart @ SII

Great question Glen. The best way to work on improving hip strength to control the femur is with eccentric types of exercises. I have a little bit of information on the site regarding these - lunges, balance exercises, etc. However, I do not yet have a lot of specific exercises outlined at SII. The site is constantly evolving, and unfortunately, there is only so much time in the week for site development, since this is more of a part time hobby and not my full time job.

Check out the information on the rehab pages for some examples of different exercises for the core and for balance, and subscribe to The Athletic Trainers Corner so you are notified about updates. Specific strengthening exercises for the hip are coming, hopefully soon.

Thanks again for a great question.

Hip flexor/knee stregthening
by: Anonymous

If you'd like a great hip flexor/knee strengthing program, look at an American Russian Kettlebell class. Make sure it's certified, but the entire emphasis is on core body workout. I started a couple of months ago, and it has made a huge difference in joint flexabiltiy and core stability....and it's FUN!!

Kettle bell programs ARE great!
by: Bart - SII

Kettle bell exercises are a fantastic way to work on strengthening of the hips, core and entire body. I frequently use these types of exercises with my patients, and they are amazingly effective. I hope to include some examples of these types of exercises in the near future.
