Question - Knee Injury (forced flexion)

by Josh
(Atlanta, GA)

I had fallen awhile back and went straight down from a standing position and my knee bent back way ruther than my flexibility usually allows. Now I can't bend it back half as far as I used to without pain and the same when I extend it straight out in front of me.

What kind of injury do you think that might be? At first I had a hard time walking but now I can walk alrightbut the flexibility is hwere the pain comes in. If I'm kneeling on my knees my torso has to be straight or it is painful.

The first thing that comes to mind is possible injury to the PCL - forced flexion is a common way to injure this ligament.

You could also have injury to the meniscus, the ACL, the patella surfaces, or the joint capsule.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for an evaluation to get to the bottom of this and to explore your treatment options for the best recovery.
