Question - Knee Popping (ACL reconstruction 4 years ago)

by Sean
(Illinois)

I had reconstructive surgery on my ACL about 4 years ago. I completely tore it. I am 35 years old right now and try to stay active. I am experiencing a popping feeling in my inner knee that is painful when I do anything active (softball, running).

I assume that is the MCL. It is becoming increasingly frustrating because after it pops it gets really sore and it is hard to move around for a few days without feeling discomfort.

Is this something I will have the rest of my life or is there something I can do to prevent this from happening. I am a relatively young 35 years old. I do wear a knee brace when I play softball.

Please help!!

Thanks!!

knee popping

Did you have a hamstring or patellar tendon ACL reconstruction? Both of these can end up with some scar tissue around the knee, with the patellar tendon graft usually causing more. This could be what is popping in the knee.

You may also have some biomechanical issues that could be causing the popping - perhaps from the knee cap.

I would recommend following up with your doctor to see if there is anything you can do for this - perhaps therapy or a good biomechanical evaluation.
