Question - Lateral Release Procedure

This surgery has been recommended for my husband who has arthritis in his knees--and also lateral riding patella.

A knee replacement has been presented as one option---do you think this might be a logical step before one considers replacement?

Is there any research that might give us ideas about outcomes?

Thanks!

Definitely an option to replacement...

Lateral release surgery has a good chance to help with his knee arthritis, especially if they perform an arthroscopy as well and are able to smooth out the roughening of the cartilage. It is a good choice before going into a knee replacement, as it may be able to put that procedure off for several years, which is always a good thing.

Regarding research on outcomes, I would suggest talking to your physician and get a prognosis from them. They will be able to give an idea about what kind of relief he can hope to get.

Hope this helps - comment back with other questions.
