Question - Lower Back Pain (gymnastics)

by Kate
(Washington)

hello i hope you can help me....i am a 12 year old girl who does a lot of gymnastics.

about 4 months ago i started feeling back pain in my lower back. i got sent to physical therapy which wasn't helping so i got a bone scan it came out negative. i got an m.r.i it said i have over grown bone on one side a bulged disc the discs are dehydrated and getting smaller and the over grown bone could be a sign of a bone injury that is healing. i am also very inflamed.

i have a brace and do rehab. but recently i have started feeling terrible and bad pain down into both of my legs and ankles this gets worse at night and keeps me up. it also wakes me up.

do you know what these pain into my legs could be?

Have you been back to the doctor?
by: Bart - SII

The pain going down into your legs could be from muscle compensation due to the back pain, or it could be that you are having some radiating symptoms caused by the extra bone growth and the thinning discs. It would probably be a really good idea to talk to your therapist or doctor about these new pains and make sure they are aware of them.

a pinched nerve?
by: Claudia Marin

i also have had really bad back pain & have seen lots of doctors.
i too had a bulging disc, which for me eventually herniated, it also caused me to have excruciating leg pain that went all the way down to my toes. i asked my specialist what the leg pain could be, and after asking me to touch my toes, lift my legs, & do some other stuff he said that it was most likely a pinched nerve. he told me that the bulging/herniated disc was compressing the nerve that went down my left leg.

hope this helps.
