Question - Meniscus Tear (regaining full extension)

I recently tore the meniscus in my left knee and haven't been able to fully straighten it. I am seeing a doctor about it and he recommended to keep trying to strengthen and straighten it gradually. As I've been on crutches, I've been slowing trying to put a little weight on it but since I can't straighten my knee I end up standing on the ball of my foot. As a result my calf muscle has started to feel really tight and almost like it's constantly flexed. It's sore even to touch it. I've tried stretching it, massaging it and even just letting it rest, but it still continues to hurt. Any thoughts would be helpful.

meniscus tear

the tear could be restricting your extension because of its location - I would recheck with your doctor and explore the next options - surgery and or an MRI to confirm the diagnosis

by: Paul

Hi there..i had a basketbal injury and i found out i tore my medial meniscus...the same thing happened...the meniscus tore along the length of the C shape of the menisus..and the inner meniscus cartlage flipped under the knee...notallowing me to straighten it out...my doctor sent me to mri and found that it had flipped and that only surgery will be possible...there is no way u will be able to straighted it out without surgery...the longer u wait the worse itwill get...see another doctor...Orthopedic surgeon!! Good luck
