Question - Pain on Patella (10 months after lateral release)

by Shelby

I had a lateral release surgery 10 months ago and still have pain. I play soccer and have resumed this sport after rehab. The pain is not a problem when I run. Only when I jump. I cannot kneel at all. Pressure on the knee cap sends me through the roof. No swelling even after repeated jumping or lifting workouts. Just pain.

What can I do???

P.S. No other damage to surrounding structures.

Hip and core strengthening...
by: Bart - SII

Pressure on the kneecap causing pain is very common and may continue for several more months or longer.

The pain you are having when you jump suggests that you may need more strengthening and muscular control in your hips.

How much strengthening did you do for your hip muscles and your core during your rehabilitation. Exercises like lunges, squats, balancing with rotation, etc. can all help to improve your hip muscles. I would work on these areas to see if that helps.
