There isn't a specific grading system for patella femoral syndrome. Most clinicians and physicians will grade it either mild, moderate, or severe depending on how much pain and dysfunction you are having. So, if you have a little pain after sports activities, that would be considered mild, while pain with any type of daily activity, like walking or stairs, would be considered more severe.

It is very hard to give a definite time frame for recovery from patella femoral syndrome. There are so many different things that can be contributing to the pain, and everyone responds to treatment differently. With that said, most of the patients that I treat for patella femoral syndrome respond favorably within 4-6 weeks of rehab, and are able to return to their activities in that time.

Hope this helps.
