Question - post-ACL pain (4 months)

Hi, I am a Mom of a 14 yr old girl who had ACL surgery 8-08. They did a nerve block during surgery.
She has been in so much pain to this day (4 months out) that she can't sleep at night or go to school. When she started at school, sitting was excruciatingly painful. They have thrown pain meds, inflammatories, she has done PT 3x week since the beginning--nothing works. We saw a pain specialist who put her on triccyclics to stop the pain and creams with a compound pharmacist. Now I'm wondering if they hit a nerve during surgery is the problem. I saw someone write that the neurologist confirmed that a nerve was damaged---what tests do they do to confirm that?
Does anyone have a similar story--treatment ideas? Hope for us that she will get better?

Nerve Pain
by: Anonymous

Hi, I had my ACL reconstructive surgery in December 08 and also experience extreme pain that no meds would work on. Neurologist can check the extent of the nerve damage via EMG nerve test and an MRI. In addition, I spoke to a Chiropractor that my gait could be causing the pain and to start stretching my sciatic nerve which was the could be the culprit to this pain. After 2 months of agony the pain finally stopped. Thru lower back, buttocks, hamstring, and lower leg stretching the pain has stopped and I have gotten stronger. Currently I am squating 225lbs and leg press 300 lbs Ride the bike for 25 min and back pedal on the treadmill for 15min. perform leg Adductors, Leg Abductors, Leg curls, and heal raises. I exercise every other day working out One day on and one day off. I feel no pain and feel strong but I will continue working out the full 6 months before I get back to playing Football and basketball and baseball. Hope this helped god bless and good luck
