Question - Quad strain (playing through injury)

by Cora

I have been playing competitive soccer for almost 28 years. The only re-curring injuries i have had, are my knees. Multiple surgeries, and started to play again.

I have never had a quad strain, until a couple of days ago. is it a type of injury that you should be able to work through(continue to play when injury occurs), or is it impossible to continue to play?

Depends on the severity...

Whether or not you can continue to play with a quad strain is very dependent on the severity of the injury. A minor strain shouldn't keep you from playing, but may be somewhat painful. A grade III strain would be very painful and you probably would not be able to continue.

As far as recovery, if you are having a lot of pain, I would recommend rest and gentle stretching and limiting your activities for a few days. Then, as your quad starts to feel better, gradually increase what you are doing. And if it doesn't improve over a week or so, get in to see your doctor.
