surgery for patella femoral syndrome
by: Bart - SII

Patella femoral syndrome is a very complex injury with many different possible causes. Many times it can be fixed with rehabilitation. Sometimes it does require surgery.

I would highly recommend going through rehab first before considering surgery. A good program that works on improving his mobility, strength, and muscle control of the entire leg, hips, and core may be able to reduce or eliminate his pain and avoid surgery.

What has worked for me
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I ran 7 marathons before developing patellar femoral syndrome. I went through rounds of physical therapy and 5 different doctors. All of the treatment plans focused on strengthening the VMO, which is silly since it shares a nerve with the VL and can't be isolanted (the inner and outer quad respectively). Finally I went to a chiropractor and 2 adjustments later--a year and half after the pain started--and my knee now tracks correctly. Look for causes such as crooked hips, and subluxations in the spine. I hope this helps.
