torn ACL
by: Bart - SII

Most of the time the surgery is done and you go home on the same day. Once in a great while, you might have to stay overnight, but that is not very common.

You might be able to play with it torn, but you are much more likely to cause more damage inside your knee.

acl tear
by: Anonymous

My son is 14 years old with complete acl tear from a bike accident and doctor suggests waiting another year to perform surgery since growth plate is still open. He is so bored. He goes from video games to television. He is not used to staying home, but I am afraid of him injuring his knee further until the surgery. Seeing doctor again in 3 weeks with regular x-rays to see growth plate clearer. He looked at MRI films but wants to see regular x-rays. Any suggestions for what an extremely active 14 year old could do for fun while waiting for surgery? Help. Thank you.

ACL natural healing
by: Anonymous

Well, if he can wait for 16-24 months it will heal on its own anyways...but he has to stay away totally from any type of sports or strain on the knee. They did a study that showed that about 80% of ACL breaks healed back in place if the patient wasn't active on the knee. Whats just as amazing was that most of them were within 3 milimeters or less of the original perfect alignment! I am including a link for the study that I read about:
