Question - Torn ACL (pivot shift, pop, and swelling)

by Elaine
(Kansas)

Okay, so around July 10 I did exactly what was explained in the article about most common ACL tears, I went to turn and my foot didn't but my upper leg did, it "popped" and it swelled up and hurt.

I went to the doctor and he didn't really think much of it, but I was dancing the other night and it started to grind really bad when i would twist, it was hurting. Now two days later its hurts even worse and I can't put much weight on it or keep it in the same position for very long or it starts to hurt. Its not swollen right now, it just hurts really bad.(On a scale of 1-10 I would say about a 8)

Could I have torn my ACL?

ACL Tear
by: Bart - SII

You could have torn your ACL, if your mechanism of injury and symptoms are similar to those associated with ACL tears. And it is possible that your doctor couldn't get a good clinical exam because of swelling or muscle guarding. I would recommend rechecking with your physician and getting further tests done to find out for sure.
