Question - torn lateral radial meniscus

I am in my last year of junior hockey. In July/08 i hurt my knee doing squats. The pain in my knee is a little better now, however I still cannot bend my leg without pain. I had a MRI done last week and it showed that i have a torn lateral radial meniscus. I am now waiting for arrangements being made for me to see a orthopedic surgeon to see what the next step will be.

Will i be able to return to play hockey this season ? Will this cause me to lose my hockey scholarship to a U.S. University. Will this injury prevent me from returning to play at a high level ?

I am so worried about this injury what do you think ?

Radial tear of the lateral meniscus
by: Bart - SII

A radial tear is a type of tear of the meniscus. It simply refers to the direction of the tear.

Most meniscus tears can be treated surgically and end up with a very good prognosis for recovery. You may require surgery to remove the torn portion - your orthopedic doctor will be able to give you more information on this.

Most young, healthy, active persons are able to return to sports activities much like they were before injury after a meniscus tear and surgery. It will likely involve some rehabilitation after surgery.
