Question - Trochanteric Bursitis

by Steve
(NYC)

One day while playing tennis I injured my hip. In an instant I felt severe pain in the trochanteric area on the outside of my hip. It didn't extend into my glute.

After a few days the severe pain subsided but I still feel the injury 6 weeks later. I can jog or hike, but can't make quick power moves without causing severe pain. Could I be describing trochanteric bursitis? If so, how long does it take to heal? Any other thoughts on this injury? Thanks.

Sorry I missed this one and have taken forever to get an answer.

My best advice is to see a doctor if you haven't already. It could be bursitis, but that is usually something that comes on gradually rather than in one specific time. You may have a muscle strain, but since you are over 6 weeks out from the pain starting, a visit to the doctor is a good idea.

Again, sorry for the delay.
