Radial tear of lateral meniscus surgery

(Canada)

I had surgery on my meniscus (radial tear of lateral meniscus) in which they removed slightly less than 30 percent. I play competitive hockey and started skating 5 weeks after the surgery and started playing games 6 weeks after.

Now, 8 weeks after surgery, my knee continues to bother me slightly when playing hockey. Not to the point where its unbearable pain but enough to cause a nuisance. Sort of an achey feeling. In addition, after games it usually feels tight and slightly sore.

Is this normal? Should I continue to play with this type of feeling or shut it down for a while to rest it completely?

Normal recovery and return to sports after a meniscectomy is usually 4-6 weeks...however, it will take several weeks to get back to "normal". Your timeline has you right at that point - so your achey feelings and soreness are pretty normal.

You may want to cut back a bit on the intensity of what you are doing for the next few weeks - give it a little more time. Another month should give you a significant improvement in your function.
