Residual Ankle pain following fracture

by Sherry
(Columbus, Ohio)

I fractured my ankle approximately 6 months ago. Everything healed normally without surgery. Now 6 months later, occasionally while walking or standing I have a shooting pain in my ankle area. I can take a step or two with pain and then it will just quit. Wondering what this could be and what I can do to prevent the pain in the first place. Thanks.

What kind of rehabilitation did you do after your fracture healed? Pain like you are describing could be due to muscle dysfunction. After an injury, the muscles and joints often do not communicate well with each other. Rehabilitation can help to improve this communication and reduce the chances for future problems.

Intermittent pain like you are describing could be due to poor function of the muscles and joints working together, and may benefit from exercises to help improve this function. You may want to talk to your physician about rehabilitation. You may also consider Ankle Sprain Solutions. Although you had a fracture, the exercises in this program are focused on improving overall ankle function, regardless of the type of injury sustained.
