I'm a 16 year old competitive rowing athlete. in September of 2008 when I was playing rugby I ended up "tearing" my ACL and my meniscus. After three months, the surgeon decided to do an ACL and meniscus repair, with a hamstring graft, but in the end it wasn't needed. I ended up only tearing 25% of my ACL but it had been twisted and flipped over, and my meniscus was torn but was also repaired arthroscopically. They ended up doing the procedure three times, because they couldn't decided whether or not to do the hamstring graft, which they didn't end up doing. The doctor mentioned that I would be back in my activities about a month later, which is now, and I am still experiencing pain underneath my knee cap and throughout the inner side of my knee. My swelling isn't down, and my original re-occuring problem of my knee being unstable is still there. My knee will give out once a day, and when it gives out, I've began to experience shooting pains coming from my ankle. I have yet to figure out what is going wrong because the physio has no idea because my hamstring strength is adequate so my knee shouldn't be unstable, and I still shouldn't be undergoing pain. So maybe my hopes of attending a College Rowing team are out of the question now, but I really hope not !
