Shane's 3peat

My freshman year of highschool i had loads of potential for the upcoming basketball season, but in the fall instead of playing on the golf team i decide to play football. first game- 2 touchdowns, one torn acl. I used my hamstring tendon and it felt great so i started over doing it and PoPP there it goes again. So i recieve a cadavor and 9 months later its feeling great, first basketball practice of the year i go up for a lay up and Popp. Body rejected the cadavor. So my first two years of highschool and no basketball. Now my third surgery i used my petella tendon. I've listened to everything the doctor said and it is now about 7 months post op and it has yet to feel good. And now more recently there is a severe clicking of my knee and all hope of basketball is down the tubes. SO my BIGGEST thing of advice i could give someone is dont tear your acl, and dont play football

What a Roagh Road You've Had NEW
by: Anonymous

Man. that's really rough, I feel for you:///. Imagine how strong you are to be able to go through that kinda thing 3 times!!! Keep us posted on how you are doing. I tore my acl and meniscus 5 months ago in a basketball game and was told by my therapist a couple days ago that there was no way I could play this August which would be 6 months (I was set back when I got hurt again doing deep squats too early and I had a clicking after so I thought I might have torn something again but I didn’t gratefully) so I can't be on the volleyball team.I also used the patella(the good thing about the patella is it's the strongest so don't worry about tearing it again b/c you are taking you're time). Our bodies are weird, so don't read too much into the 7 month thing or different pains or clicking. try different things like COMPLEX KNNEHAB or DMSO (seriously look it up!!!!!!). Don't take this as not playing for the last two years but a different opportunity. Not to be hypocritical because there are times when it's really rough. I'm soooooo sorry. I was a freshmen too with a lot of promise. Now my basketball coach (who said he was going to put me on varsity next year) is gone and I got kicked off volleyball (okay not exactly kicked off:) ).Keep playing God has something planned for you. Thank you for taking the time for writing you’re story!!!!! There is a lot of things I want to tell you, but I’m going to stop now...how are things :/?? Just keep holding on and pushing through, maybe there is a bigger plan here like maybe you inspire people with your story...at least it’s nice to think. Maybe start practicing freethrows because I know I get worried about missing all that time and practice. God won't give you anything you can't handle, but Shane I can imagine some of the feelings you've been having. Some day this won't really matter, treat yourself to something and take your time.

rejection? NEW
by: Rebecca

Shane - I'm very sorry to hear about all you have endured with your ACL. I had my surgery 8 weeks ago & recently joined a gym so I could strengthen. I am a 36 year old mom of 2, so I need to be active/mobile.

I asked my surgeon how I would know if my body rejects the allograft & he just said "oh, you'll know"... but I kind of want to know HOW!! Could you let me know how your rejection was diagnosed? My next biggest fear (after having undergone the ACL surgery) is rejection.

Thanks - I hope you have much better luck!
