Sore Knee From Bowling

by Guy
(N, Falls - Canada)

I am right handed and every year I hurt my left knee bowling. I am sure this is caused by the way I throw the ball moving from center of lane and releasing 1 board in from gutter. I have a tendency to have foot planted to right and then pulling right to left when releasing the ball which puts lot of pressure on knee. Each year I try to keep foot straight to take away the sudden jerk on knee - any thoughts would be most appreciated.

I am 73 and pretty competitive.

a little stretching may help
by: Bart - SII

I was trying to imagine your approach from your description - it sounds like if you could improve your hip flexibility - with a few hip stretches like a piriformis stretch, you may be able to take some of the stress off of the knee by allowing more hip rotation. You can see the stretch I am talking about on the rehab page of the site under hip stretches. Try that and see if it helps.

Thankyou for your input - bowling season fast approaching so I am about to start a little practise. Will incorporate your thoughts on stretching and let you know how I make out. Merci Beacoup
