Sports After Meniscus Repair

by Lewis Avery
(Williamsburg, VA, USA)

I have a meniscus repair coming up next week. My doctor is telling me that it will be around 6 months before i can play sports again. Does that sound a little overboard to you, because your article said 2-3 months, and i want to get back to the field as quick as possible.

Every doctor is different
by: Bart - SII

Each doctor is different with regards to their protocols for returning to play. My article lists 2-3 months after a meniscus repair, as that is an appropriate time frame if all goes well during the recovery. However, every patient I have seen with a meniscus repair has had a different timeline for return, anywhere from 3 months to 6 months - and they differ based on different physicians. Unfortunately, there isn't a constant time frame that goes with every surgery - it is very dependent on your own recovery, build up of strength, and your doctors personal philosophies.
