I blew my knee on December 22, 2008. Had my surgery last week on the 11th of February. I was sparring a round of karate--beautiful head kick on my opponent, and stepped down to move out of range when I heard the three separate snaps. Hurt!! I went to the doc on the 26th after 4 days of being unable to walk much at all. The primary care thought I might have torn my meniscus, and she sent me to a sports injury guy who demanded an MRI right away. He agreed that it was probably meniscus, but thought there may be a bit more give in the joint than he would like. Well, the MRI showed my ACL was a complete tear and a torn meniscus. His recommendation? Slam dunk--definite reconstruction surgery. I chose the patellar tendon reconstruction.
The surgery itself wasn't much fun--I was rushed out very quickly. As soon as I was conscious, they dressed me and put me in a wheelchair. I told them I wasn't ready to go home--i felt nauseous. They handed me an emesis bowl and told me I'd be fine. I wasn't! Not the most fun ride home.
I am now on day 7--exactly one week out. I am doing better, but still in a lot of pain. I wasn't given a support stocking, so I have to re-wrap my leg frequently with the ace bandages. I am trying to get off the codine pills so my brain can clear up. Getting some pressure from co-workers to get back to work as quickly as possible, but I don't feel capable of getting back up--my leg begins throbbing whenever I sit up for too long.
Any advice and good words of wisdom?
