Steroid shots for PFS

I am 44 yrs old and my doctor said I had PFS. He recommended Glucosamine and Chrondroitin, dietary suppliments. He told me to do a few exercises and wait a couple of months to see how it goes. Rest and specific exercises have not seemed to make any difference (I am just a walker...not a runner.)

I am planning to get a steroid shot in both knees because I have a trip to Yellowstone scheduled and want to be able to walk and do some light hiking with out ruining the trip for everyone else.

I was wondering if the steroid shots do any damage to the knee, or is it OK to use?

Thanks,
Tricia

There are side effects
by: Bart - SII

There are side effects of steroid injections - some of the more common ones are possible weakening of connective tissue and damage to articular surfaces. Most of the time these problems surface after multiple injections over a period of time.

Cortizone injections in the shoulder are very common with problems like impingement syndrome. However, the relief often only lasts for a few weeks or months and the problem often returns. I think this may be a way to allow for you to have less pain while on your trip, however, I wouldn't count on it being a complete cure, as the underlying mechanical problems won't be changed.
