My daughter has had terrible knee pain for 2 days that came on suddenly but has had no acute injury and there is bruising, what does this sound like? She is very athletic. She plays basketball and softball.

Bruising without contact
by: Bart - SII

Bruising generally indicates some type of internal injury, and then the blood moves to the surface producing the bruise. She may have had some type of twisting that caused some internal damage and now the fluid has moved to the surface.

I would recommend seeing your doctor if she is having pain and it is limiting her activities.
